If you are a regular YouTube user, you may have noticed that the search results are becoming cluttered with unrelated videos. This includes videos labelled “You might also like this” and “People also watched this video.” Sometimes, these videos even include adult content, even if you searched for normal topics.
Unfortunately, there is no permanent way to disable them, but you can avoid them in your next search with a simple search hack. This wikiHow will help you remove unnecessary videos from your YouTube search results.
Steps
-
1Open YouTube on your device. You can use this trick on any device. If you are on a desktop, go to www.youtube.com in your browser. If you are using a phone or tablet, open the YouTube app from the app drawer.
-
2Type something in the search box. You can type anything, but don’t hit the search button yet.Advertisement
-
3Add “before:[upcoming year]” at the beginning or end of your search term. You don’t need quotation marks (“”) or brackets ([ ]). Just replace the brackets with the actual upcoming year.- For example, if you’re searching in 2025, type before:2026 either before or after your search term.

-
4Now hit the search button. On desktop, press enter; on mobile, tap the search icon on your keyboard.
-
5That’s it! This search trick shows videos uploaded up to the end of the current year (for example, all videos before 2026 if you’re searching in 2025). It also removes videos labelled “You might also like this” and “People also watched this video,” giving you a cleaner search experience. You’re done!
