Stop your Roku from getting too hot

Your Roku device may get warm during use but it shouldn't be scorching hot. If your Roku device is overheating, you'll see a red light and/or the error message "Your device is overheating" on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to cool it down. Here's what to do if your Roku is overheating.

Cooling Down a Roku Device

  • If your Roku is overheating, unplug it and wait 10 minutes. Plug it in again. Repeat up to three times.
  • Use an HDMI extender to move your Roku device away from the back of your TV.
  • Keep air circulating in the room and around your device.

    • If you let your device continue to overheat, it could severely damage your device.

  1. Some Roku devices can plug directly into the TV. However, if your device allows an alternate connection, use a cable and AC wall adapter instead. You may be receiving too high or too low a voltage for the device to work properly.
